The Weatheralls Primary School

World Book Day

The children were incredibly excited and as proud to wear their costumes as we were to see them. We wish we could have captured every moment to share.

The start of our day began with a wonderful whole school parade, where we admired and enjoyed each other’s story characters. We really did bring them to life! It was amazing to see such a variety of books from classical novels  such as The Secret Garden and Oliver Twist to modern Julia Donaldson books and more.

The children then watched The Premier League Tom Palmer and author of Roy of the Rovers, as well as the hugely popular author Dan Freedman. He is the author of the Jamie Johnson football novels. This was just before the Terrific Teams challenge which the children took part in. This challenge was linked to the Premier league Primary stars and National Literacy Trust.

There were other fun activities throughout the school too from making hats, designing book covers and drawing their costumes.

In the afternoon the children enjoyed storytelling from the teachers and the children listened in awe and wonder.

Mr Horsley visited Team Earhart and very much enjoyed this opportunity to read a chapter from James and the Giant Peach!

All in all, it was such a wonderful day for children and staff.

Books really do take us to brand new worlds and are a passport to countless adventures. Keep enjoying the adventure!
